Training set for “Safe Talk”
On August 16 we will hold a training day in Halifax. We have people from Saint John, St. John’s and Halifax planning to come. The course “Safe Talk” will be presented by Josh Messick from Baltimore. This is a key course that will be required by anyone who has contact with seafarers in any of our stations or aboard vessels. This course enables the person trained, to spot signs of suicide and to engage appropriately with the respondent. The course was also previously given in Vancouver in May. Each station should make plans to host this course and ensure that all volunteers have an opportunity to take it. Costs for this are covered by IHQ. In the Halifax event we will also be looking at a medical assessment tool and the overall operations of a station.
